World Jump Day: When the Whole World Leaps Together
World Jump Day unites people worldwide in a fun, symbolic leap to raise awareness about climate change and global unity.
Celebrate World Jump Day by Jumping for Joy, Fitness, and a Greener Planet
On this World Jump Day we are urging people everywhere to jump at the same time. The purpose of this interactive observance is to alter the Earth’s orbit by having millions of people jump simultaneously.
World Jump Day was organized primarily to aid in the fight against global warming. It was thought that altering Earth’s orbit could contribute to a decrease in global warming. Changes in Earth’s orbit may have an impact on climate change according to some scientists. Millions of people jumping simultaneously however has not been shown to alter Earth’s orbit.
Background of World Jump Day
In the UK German artist Torsten Lauschmann came up with the idea for World Jump Day. The inaugural event took place on July 20 2006. To advertise the day Lauschmann made a website that reportedly had 600 million registered jumpers. He believed that if enough people leaped simultaneously the Earth’s orbit would be altered. Lauschmann thought this would contribute to a decrease in global warming. Millions of people worldwide still celebrate World Jump Day despite the fact that it was shown to be unscientific.
