Sonam Raghuvanshi Paid ₹20 Lakh to Kill Husband During Honeymoon, Say Police

A Meghalaya Police officer claims that Sonam Raghuvanshi paid ₹20 lakh to hire killers after her husband Raja Raghuvanshi was killed. The murder allegedly occurred during their honeymoon in Meghalaya just days after their wedding.

The officer also claimed that she took ₹15000 in cash straight out of her husband’s wallet during the crime and gave it to the attackers at first. 

After turning herself in to the police in Ghazipur Uttar Pradesh Sonam Raghuvanshi was taken into custody by Meghalaya Police on Tuesday. That same night she was later taken to Shillong. A day after her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and three suspected contract killers from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were arrested in connection with the murder she turned herself in. 

Raj Kushwaha says he abruptly canceled his trip to Meghalaya because he didn’t want to back Sonam. After Sonam purchased the tickets the three others allegedly went to see Meghalaya despite his alleged request that they not. Sonam insisted that she would pay ₹15 lakh for the three to kill even though they refused to do so until the very last minute. A senior Indore police officer who is assisting the Meghalaya police with the investigation stated Police are verifying these claims.

With reference to Sonam’s transfer route which included flights from Ghazipur to Patna Kolkata Guwahati and Shillong a Meghalaya police officer remarked She did not speak much during most of the journey.

Days after reports that the couple had gone missing while on honeymoon the case took a startling turn on Monday when shocking information surfaced that Sonam and her lover Raj Kushwaha were allegedly involved in Raja’s murder. The couple got married on May 11 and left for Meghalaya on May 21. On May 23 they were reported missing. The body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found on June 2 in Sohra in the East Khasi Hills district in a gorge close to a waterfall. According to the police the murder occurred on May 23 the day the couple vanished.

A FIR was Filed after Raja was Killed With a Dao (Machete) and Valuables were Stolen

According to investigators Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha both from Indore planned the murder. 

The FIR makes it clear that Raja was killed with a dao (machete) and that his valuables were taken according to Vivek Syiem superintendent of police for East Khasi Hills. Sonam’s role in funding the murderers and subsequently making a sizable offer clearly suggests a conspiracy. To ensure a comprehensive investigation we are analyzing all available evidence.

According to Raj Kushwaha he abruptly withdrew his support for Sonam and chose not to travel to Meghalaya according to a senior Indore police officer who is helping the Meghalaya police with their investigation.

According to Raj Kushwaha he abruptly canceled his trip to Meghalaya because he didn’t want to back Sonam. After Sonam purchased the tickets the three others allegedly went to see Meghalaya despite his alleged request that they not. Despite the three last-minute refusal to kill Sonam persisted and offered to pay ₹15 lakhs for it. According to the officer, police are confirming these allegations. 

According to a Meghalaya police officer, Sonam and Kushwaha allegedly came up with the murderous scheme and the accused followed her instructions.

Killers Discuss Specifics of the Murders Execution

The accused murderers said Sonam pretended to be tired just before arriving at the murder scene according to a Meghalaya police officer. She allegedly placed them behind Raja and gave them the order to kill him when they arrived at a remote location.

The officer went on to say that in order to recreate the events they plan to take Sonam and the three suspected murderers to the scene of the crime. 

The officer stated that Sonam would also be brought to the location where she allegedly assisted in disposing of the body adding We need corroboration of the sequence from her and the killers. We also intend to use the evidence we have gathered to confront Kushwaha and the suspected murderers.

Police say the accused had pretended to be tourists, made friends with the couple and carried out the scheme. 

Despite not going with Sonam to Meghalaya investigators claimed that Raj Kushwaha spoke with her on the phone during that period based on his statements.
