Family Tragedy: 7 of Family Die by Suicide in Panchkula Car, Note Found

Seven members of a family from Dehradun were discovered dead in a parked car in Sector 27, Panchkula. Among the deceased are Praveen Mittal, his aged parents, his wife and three children, who are still young: two daughters and a son. Police investigations in the early stages show that many committed suicide due to big financial problems and heavy debts.

The family was heading back to Dehradun after spending their holiday at Panchkula for a religious ceremony at Bageshwar Dham. Police discovered a Hyundai Aura parked where the residents live on the side of the road. Seeing the unusual state of the place and how the occupants looked, those in the village informed the police.

Once on-scene, the police noticed all seven people locked inside the vehicle and most appeared to be only partly conscious. An ambulance took the victims to Ojas Hospital and Civil Hospital, Sector 6, but everyone there was pronounced dead. People close to the family say the family died after eating poison. A suicide note was discovered among the evidence taken from the car. Police have not revealed every detail from the note, yet sources have stated that the authors admitted to large amounts of debt and pressure being the motivation for their actions. It made it very clear how hard the family had to endure, moving them to this extreme and heart-wrenching choice.

The police are investigating the incident in great detail. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Panchkula Himadri Kaushik said that it appeared like a case of suicide from the prima facie but everything is being investigated. All stone and material evidence is being collected from the crime scene with expert forensics officials working on the case. The post-mortems have begun and forensic evidence will also base the cause of death for each family member.

This is truly a tragic story that shows just how financially difficult life can be and can remind us in this moment that mental health support is so important, as the family has made a courageous decision, for whatever reason, to take their 3 children along with them. Based on the debt responsibilities, which just shows how hopeless family situations can portray to a family or individuals or people that feel there is no way out of suffocating debt or obligations of which absolutely cripples on many levels as witnessed. There isn’t anything that can change or help the situation now, unfortunately and the community has lost a family in tragic circumstance as the investigation proceeds with great detail.
