Meghalaya Police Solve Raja Raghuvanshi’s Honeymoon Murder Case Within a Week

According to authorities on Monday Raja Raghuvanshi the missing wife of an Indore man who was discovered dead in Meghalaya while on their honeymoon has been taken into custody in relation to her husband’s alleged murder. The police claim that Sonam the wife hired contract killers to plan the murder. 

Sonam Found Unconscious in Ghazipur

Sonam was discovered unconscious at a Ghazipur dhaba on Saturday night according to officials. After receiving medical attention at the Ghazipur Medical College she turned herself in to the police and was taken into custody. 

Three More Suspects Arrested

Idashisha Nongrang the director general of police (DGP) for Meghalaya stated that three additional suspects were taken into custody during overnight raids. Two people were arrested from Indore while one was discovered in Uttar Pradesh. According to the accused, Sonam hired them to kill her husband. 

Ongoing Interrogation and Investigation

Authorities stated that police are questioning the suspect and conducting additional investigation. 

Chief Minister Applauds Police Efforts

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma of Meghalaya commended the police for solving the case.

Timeline of Disappearance and Discovery

On May 23 the newlyweds Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam vanished while on their honeymoon in Cherrapunjee in the East Khasi Hills. A day earlier the couple had arrived in Nongriat and they were last seen leaving Balaji Homestay. One day after they vanished a rented scooter was discovered abandoned in Sohrarim.

The body of the businessman from Indore was discovered ten days later in a deep gorge beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. Near the scene a machete that may have been used to kill him was also found. The hunt for his wife was underway. 

Eyewitness Account from a Local Guide

A Meghalayan tourist guide said on Saturday that he saw the couple with three men the day they vanished. Around ten in the morning on May 23 five of them were ascending more than 3000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat according to the Mawlakhiat guide. He claimed to have known the couple since he had offered to help them climb down to Nongriat on May 22 but they had graciously declined and hired a different guide.
