After her husband Lieutenant Vinay Narwal died tragically in the Pahalgam terror attack, widow Himanshi Narwal received brutal online attacks for reaching out with a plea for peace followed by communal unity. In the wake of the attack Himanshi Narwal lost her husband just days after their wedding on their honeymoon and she spoke out against venting frustrations at either Muslims or Kashmiris. The social media users responded to her peace message with multiple hateful attacks which included personal insults alongside pointless conspiracy theory allegations.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) declared strong opposition against this online harassment by asserting that victimizing women who express opinions or experience loss is entirely unacceptable. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar declared that a few people’s disagreement with Himanshi does not justify the unconscionable online attacks she receives which violate human decency principles as well as constitutional rights. The commission demands both compassion and respect toward the grieving widow from the public.
Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra joined numerous others in publicly condemning the toxic online abuse that has targeted Himanshi Narwal. Through social media Chopra shared her disgust with the trolling while uniting herself with the grieving widow. Himanshi’s stand for peace required compassion and understanding from people and she demanded that the hateful words directed at her must stop. Numerous influential social media users together with well-known figures raised their voices in support of Himanshi Narwal while condemning her online abuse and praising her calls for unity as she endures unfathomable tragedy.
May many echo her sentiments, emphasizing that the focus should rather be upon bringing those that took part in the terror attack to justice instead of fomenting communal hatred and scapegoating innocent communities.
