Prime Minister Narendra Modi Flags Off Chenab Bridge, Ushering a New Era of Connectivity in Kashmir

A significant turning point in India’s infrastructure development was reached on Friday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Chenab railway bridge, the tallest rail bridge in the world.

To formally inaugurate the marvel, PM Modi flew to the Chenab bridge site after landing at the Air Force station in Udhampur. This is his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir since Operation Sindoor, a cross-border military operation in response to the 26-person Pahalgam terror attack in April.

While visiting an exhibition on the USBRL project Modi also had conversations with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

PM Modi also spoke with officials, engineers and workers who worked on the ambitious project to build a rail link between Kashmir and the rest of India during the visit.

The famous building which spans the Chenab River is a component of the USBRL project which currently has a rail connection between Kashmir and the rest of the nation.

In order to improve connectivity in the area, Modi is also scheduled to open India’s first cable-stayed Anji bridge after the Chenab railway bridge.

Additionally he will launch two Vande Bharata Express trains between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra completing the entire 272-kilometer USBRL stretch.

The area will experience a revolutionary increase in connectivity with the impending opening of the new Vande Bharata Express trains and the Anji cable-stayed bridge. The additional flyover and road improvement projects in border regions demonstrate a comprehensive infrastructure strategy intended to improve both urban and rural communities throughout J & K.
