Shantnu & Nikhil’s Metropolis Redefines Indian Couture Menswear With Bold Innovation
Shantnu & Nikhil and their designs have become a synonym to luxurious and modern creativity in Indian fashion and this time again, the design duo has expanded the horizons of stylish but old-fashioned men clothing with the new collection, the Metropolis. This courageous line is not only about clothes, but it is a deep re-definition of Indian menswear couture, which makes it international, modern, global but still having the beauty of its initial grandeur. The whole campaign of ‘Metropolis’ also serves as a testament to the fact that the brand will only ever stop at achieving out-of-this-world innovative excellence, as they have once again managed to redefine the modern Indian occasion wear market by creating something that indeed appears out of this world seen through the eyes of the modern man.
Different Evolution It is a departure of the traditional
Over the years, the code of Indian men couture has stuck to a comparatively limited zone: heavily embroidered sherwani, bandhgalas and kurtas, mostly in rich and traditional colours. Although this traditionally elegant method was not to be denied, there was very little personal expression or modern sensibility. Shantnu & Nikhil have always been trying to buck this trend and to date, their song, Metropolis is their biggest declaration. The collection is not only about the ornamentation, but it is more about the aggressive tailoring, new silhouette, a risky play on the textures and drapes which has been very marginal to the menswear world in India.
Design of Architectural Silhouettes and Contemporary Drapes-
The identifying factor about metropolis is architectural accuracy. The designs are perfectly sculpted, there are clear lines and formed shapes with a strong, nearly futuristic refined elegance. Think of impeccably fitted dinner jackets with an added surprise of a version like a slight asymmetrical line that generates a modern touch or a flamboyant collar that gives it an ultra-modern appearance. Drapes are also skillfully introduced in the collection but they are not of the flowing kind, which would be described as traditional. Rather, such drapes are artfully intentional, constrained, and strategically situated to form an eye appeal and lend characteristics of fluidity of motion to what would otherwise be designed objects. The play of solidity and fluidity here are a new avatar in the refreshing form and give a new stylish vocabulary to the Indian formal wears.
Beyond Bling: Subtlety and Sophistication.
Perhaps the most startling part of “Metropolis” is Shantnu & Nikhil’s departure from excessive embellishment. Indian couture can sway towards obnoxiously embellished with zardozi or mirror work, whereas “Metropolis” is decidedly less. Instead, the choice in fabrics, cuts, and the subtlety of layering fabrics were all the focus. These included phenomenal velvets, precious silks and cottons, and innovative blends of any and all of these materials, a large part of what made “Metropolis” whole was its perception through the lens of colors; while it could easily get lost in the shades of bold and electric, “Metropolis” took muted extremes and developed charcoals, midnight blues, rich and deep emerald greens, and undertoned-steel-like metallics.

Redefining the Modern Indian Groom and Gentleman
“Metropolis” has a broader view of fashion rather than merely a runway show, but it is about how both the modern Indian groom and gentleman can cut a figure that draws away from the mundane oppositions of built culture. “Metropolis” exhibited a total of around thirty-five outfits, which were a selection of duos to six in one suited sherwani piece. From pieces as recognizable as sherwani that Clah-Shantnu & Nikhil re-imagined through experimental cuts and appendages, to tailored suits that act as this identity between Indian and Western culture while still working through a collection that demonstrates sartorial worth.
