India Retaliates, Hits Pakistani Airbases; Missile Targeting Delhi Intercepted.
The overnight events, including the strikes on airbases and the attempted missile attack, represent a dangerous intensification of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
India Strikes Back: 3 Pakistani Airbases Hit, Missile Downed Over Delhi
The relations between India and Pakistan, already under stress, have reached precipitating point as an all out war takes shape, one day after a series of chases by the aggressors. In vengeful and clear shot retaliation, it is reported that the India attacked three Pakistani airbases and an on-rushing missile towards the Indian capital, Delhi, was intercepted successfully.
The reports indicate that on the dawn on Saturday May 10th 2025, Indian forces struck three crucial Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases: Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Rafiqui (Shorkot in Jhang district). These strikes (using air to surface missiles) followed hours after India alleged that Pakistan had attacked drones into 26 places inside Indian territory from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. Details about the extent of the damage that had been done to the Pakistani airbases are yet to be confirmed, but a spokesperson for the Pakistan military acknowledged the strikes, though it did not confirm that all PAF assets were okay.
On top of this, came reports that a long range Fatah-II missile was launched by Pakistan, with trajectory pointed towards Delhi. Yet Indian air defense systems deployed close to Sirsa in Haryana shot down and neutralized the incoming missile before it reached the capital. This is an important escalation and has brought the threat of direct attacks close to a major Indian metropolitan area.
The recent spike of the antagonism can be traced back to a deadly terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22 and the deaths of 26, mostly tourists. India accused Pakistan-backed militants of this attack, which was hugely denied by Islamabad. Later, India executed what it referred to as the “precision strikes” against suspected terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Pakistan denounced these strikes as an “act of war” and promised to retaliate, and it has seem to materialize in reported drone attacks in several parts of India and the attempted missile strike on Delhi.
In response to India’s strikes on its airbases, Pakistan purportedly went on another counter-offensive, codenamed “Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos,” targeting Indian military installations. The attacks on an airbase at Udhampur and an airfield at Pathankot are reported but are yet to be independently verified. Owing to the tension, Pakistani airspace was closed to civilian traffic till noon today. Indiscriminate bombings and air raid sirens have been reported in various cities in Jammu and Kashmir and the Punjab state of India.
The international community finds this conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors extremely obscene. The G7 countries have called for a quick de-escalation and asked India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and initiate direct talks for a peaceful resolution. The United States has reiterated the call and stressed that a further military build-up must be avoided.
As the situation develops, the risks for bigger conflict remain high. Each side accuses the other of initiating and escalating the hostilities.

Both sides are probably assessing the damage and drawing up how to respond next, with the world watching breathlessly, hoping for a quick de-escalation before it goes further out of control.
