Shakti Dubey Tops UPSC CSE 2024 Rankings

On Tuesday the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 final results. Shakti Dubey has emerged as the topper of the UPSC CSE 2024 followed by Harshita Goyal in second place and Dongre Archit Parag in third. 

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Group A and Group B Central Services include the 1009 candidates who were chosen for appointment to these prestigious services in a variety of categories. 

Who is UPSC 2024 topper Shakti Dubey? 

  • Shakti Dubey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad. According to a statement released by the commission she was eligible to take the test with international relations and political science as elective subjects. 
  • Goyal Harshita a B. Political science and international relations were her elective subjects and she earned the second rank as a Com graduate from MS University of Baroda. 
  • Bachelor of Technology graduate Archit Parag. With philosophy as an elective he placed third in the rankings for his technical degree in electrical and electronics engineering from VIT Vellore. 
  • Shah Margi Chirag who graduated from Gujarat Technological University in Ahmedabad with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in computer engineering placed fourth with sociology as an elective. 
  • With sociology as an elective Aakash Garg who graduated from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi with a Bachelor of Technology degree in computer science and engineering placed fifth.

Regarding the Civil Services Examination

The UPSC selects officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among other positions through an annual civil services examination that is divided into three stages: preliminary, main and oral. 

Last June 16 2024 the civil services (preliminary) examination was held. 583213 candidates actually took the test out of the 992599 applicants who came in total.

The written (main) exam was held in September 2024 and 14627 candidates in total were eligible to appear. 2845 of these applicants were eligible to take the interview or personality test.

Among the finally qualified candidates the top five comprise three women and two men.

There are eleven women and fourteen men among the top 25 candidates. They have graduated from top universities in the nation including IIT NIT VIT JNU the University of Delhi and the University of Allahabad with degrees in engineering humanities science commerce medical science and architecture according to the UPSC.

In the written (main) examination the top 25 successful candidates chose to take a variety of elective courses such as public administration sociology anthropology commerce and accounting geography mathematics philosophy physics political science and international relations and Tamil literature. 

In addition 45 individuals with benchmark disabilities – 12 orthopedically disabled 8 visually impaired 16 hearing impaired and 9 with multiple disabilities – are included in the recommended candidates.
