Bengaluru Police Cancel RCB Victory Parade, Citing Security and Traffic Concerns

Bengaluru Police declared on Tuesday afternoon that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) would not be participating in their much-anticipated victory parade. After their historic first title victory in Ahmedabad the IPL winning team is expected to arrive in the city just hours before the decision is made. 

Chinnaswamy Stadium will Host a Ceremony of Recitation

Police explained that there would not be a public roadshow because of logistical and security reasons even as thousands of fans prepared to line the streets for the open-top bus procession from Vidhana Soudha to M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Instead the team will take part in a felicitation ceremony from 5 to 6 p. m. at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The police also mentioned that only individuals with valid tickets will be allowed entry. 

Police issued a public advisory in both Kannada and English warning residents to stay off the roads near Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium between 3 and 8 p. m. due to heavy traffic and crowding. Authorities also cited the Central Business Districts (CBD) scarcity of parking as a major deterrent to the parade’s staging.

Joint efforts are being made by Bengaluru’s traffic and civic departments to control the anticipated spike in spectators near the stadium. In order to get to the event or get around the city in the evening commuters are strongly encouraged to use Metro and other public transportation options. 

In the meantime the RCB management announced that today’s Victory Parade will begin at 5 p.m. The RCBs X handle posted the RCB Victory Parade: Today at 5 pm IST. . Celebrations will take place at Chinnaswamy Stadium after the Victory Parade. To ensure that everyone can enjoy the roadshow in peace we ask all fans to abide by the rules established by the police and other authorities.

At 10 AM the RCB team left Ahmedabad earlier in the day and they should arrive at HAL Airport by 1:30 PM. After meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha at approximately 4 PM the team will proceed to the stadium for the formal celebration. 

Particularly after RCBs thrilling IPL title victory following eighteen years of heartache this change in plans has disappointed a lot of fans. Officials have however promised strict security and joyous celebrations inside the stadium to commemorate the teams long-awaited victory.
