Tragedy in Gujarat: Air India Flight Crash Leaves 242 Lives at Risk
An Air India Flight carrying 242 people crashed Thursday afternoon at Gujarat’s Ahmedabad airport close to the Meghaninagar neighborhood.
According to a statement from Air India the aircraft AI171 was traveling from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick. An incident involving Flight AI171 which operated from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick occurred today June 12 2025 according to a statement released by Air India. When he learned of the Ahmedabad flight crash Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu expressed his shock and sadness.
We are always on high alert. I am personally keeping an eye on the situation and I have instructed all emergency response and aviation agencies to act quickly and cooperatively, Naidu stated.
According to the minister rescue crews have been called in and attempts are underway to guarantee that relief supplies and medical assistance are delivered to the scene as soon as possible. All those on board and their families are in my thoughts and prayers, he continues.
This is What We Currently Know
- Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the Director General of Civil Aviation stated that the aircraft took off at 1:38 pm and crashed five minutes later.
- Two pilots and ten cabin crew members made up the 242 passengers on board. According to the DGCA Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar were in charge of the aircraft.
- In regards to the plane crash Gujarat’s home minister, police commissioner and chief minister Bhupendra Patel have all had conversations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He promised them the Central government would help.
- The Ahmedabad airport has been closed since the incident.
