BJP MP Pragya Thakur: Keep weapons in your homes

The best approach to combat love jihad is to teach parents the “techniques” that are used in it, said BJP MP Pragya Thakur

Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur once again sparked a row with a controversial statement saying that it is no longer the time for sacrifice, “but for retaliation. “Addressing the Hindu Jagarana Vedike’s South Region annual convention in Shivamogga, she said many Hindus including, Harsha of Shivamogga, have sacrificed their lives in Karnataka in recent years for the sake of Hindutva. So this is the time for retaliation and not sacrifice.

“Love jihad; if nothing else, they have a tradition of jihad. Even when they are in love, they do jihad. A sanyasi loves his god, and we (Hindus) also love the God” said Thakur.

The best approach to combat love jihad is to teach parents the “techniques” that are used in it. She also urged Hindu girls to avoid becoming victims of the practice. She also advised people to keep weapons-at least, knives for chopping vegetables-in their homes. She stated there is nothing improper with maintaining it for personal defense.

“Keep weapons in your homes, if nothing else, at least knives used to cut vegetables, sharp…Don’t know what situation will arise when…Everyone has the right to self-protection. If someone infiltrates our house and attacks us, giving a befitting replay is our right,” she said.

Advising parents against educating their children in missionary institutions, Thakur said, “by doing it you will open the doors of old age homes for yourselves.”

“(by educating in missionary institutions), the children won’t be yours and of your culture. They grow in the culture of old age homes and become selfish,” she said.

“Do pujas at your home, read about your dharma and shastra, and teach your children about it, so that children know about our culture and values,” she added.

This is not the first time that Pragya Singh Thakur made communal remarks and she stoked controversies on several occasions from her comments in the past. Thakur is a prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon Blast case and was granted bail on health grounds in 2017. She appeared before trial court in October.

Earlier on the Hijab row, she warned that headscarves will not be tolerated if they are worn in educational institutions other than madrassas. “You have madrassas.

Addressing an event on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, Sadhvi also said, “People who are not safe in their houses need to wear Hijab. While outside, wherever there is ‘Hindu Samaj’, they are not required to wear Hijab, especially at places where they study.”

Pragya also said, “In independent India, a country has been made for them based on religion, then go there. Hindus in this country have freedom of worship, for this, we can do anything.”
