Indian Shoe Maker takes the World by Storm!

Shoe making is in her blood. Her father and brother all are into this profession. It is “Khandani”. Glamourous Aruna Seth is not just another good looking face on the fashion scene. She is a serious shoe maker with determination. This Indian shoe designer now settled in London is much sought after and her collections are worn by starlets of all ages from Goldie Hawn to Pixie Lott.

 

Excerpts from the interview:

1. Tell me how you have started?

It was a family business and since childhood I used to visit my father’s studio and help him in designing shoes. Soon I started taking interest in various aspect of shoe making. In 2007 I started designing my own shoes in my name “Aruna Seth”.

2. How was the initial response?

Not so bad. I knew there was lot of competition and I tried to give shoe designing a new definition. My shoes have their own unique style emphasizing on glamourous heels you can dance in. It clicked.


3. How different are your shoes from others?

I have worked closely with my clients and their suggestions were a source of inspiration for me. Besides I would see that they are classic in every way as they stand test of times.


4. Do you emphasis more on comfort or fashionable look?

Both are inseparable. Ankle boots with peep toes are very fashionable and comfortable. My clients’ maximum preference is for such stuffs.

5. What is your advice to a shoe buyer?

Platforms with a wow factor are a must in very wardrobe. A pair of polished black to go from day to evening. You will feel elegant and it does not matter where you are going. Also a comfy boots can make you feel extra glamorous.


6. Who is your favorite Indian designer and why?

For me Tarun Tahaliani is doing excellent work. Especially I like his knowledge about Indian art and culture.

7. One person you would like to design for?

I love to design a shoe for Cameron Diaz, because she is classic and fun loving at the same time.


8. What about an Indian celebrity?

Without doubt my friend and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty , because she is well known in India and London and she straddles both well. So Shilpa would be good to work with.


9. Are you influenced by Indian design?

To some extend in the form of colours and textures. My red shoes are designed keeping in mind Indian traditional wedding.


10. Your advice to shoe lovers?

Wear it with long skirts and keep it simple and concentrate on wow factor.
