Gender pay gap in India stands at 27 percent: Report

According to a report by Monster Salary Index the gender pay gap in India stands at 27 percent. The report indicated that while men earned a median gross hourly salary of Rs. 288.68, women on the other hand only earned 207.85 per hour.

The report of Monster has covered eight different sectors including healthcare, caring services, social work, Education, banking insurance , communication and more.

Notably , the pay gap was recorded highest in manufacturing sector. The report also highlighted the various factors behind the pay gap such as preferences of male employees over female employees, career breaks of women due to parenthood or marriage and other socio – cultural factors.
