Delhi Celebrates 2014


The Department of Art, Culture and Languages organized a wonderful evening on August 29 for its Delhi audience. The famous Sufi singer, Indira Naik and the Delhi-based Astitva Band were the special performers of the Raag Rang festival held at Central Park, Connaught Place.

Each year, a huge number of artists, from all nooks and corners of the country fill Delhi with music, color, dance and drama. Tourists go back with fond memories of a vibrant India and Delhi’s residents discover new delights for entertainment. To continue this wonderful tradition of bringing people together and to appreciate India’s cultural heritage, ‘Delhi Celebrates’ was in the capital once again. Artists and musicians from all over the country graced this festival and presented soulful Ghazals, Qawwalies, Sufiana kalaam and folk music to the spellbound audience.


This year, the star performers to bright up the mood of the audience were:

• Maestro Anupriya Deotale-The classical North Indian violin artist.
• Ustad Ahmed and Mohammad Hussain- The two ghazals brothers
• Malini Awasthi- The traditional folk singer
• Devanand Jha- Madhubani playback singer
• Teejan Bai- exponent of Pandavani, a traditional performing art form.
• Sadhna Bhatia- a Delhi-based singer

On the musical evening of 29th August, Indira Naik sang some of the famous tracks like Khwaja mere Khwaja, Kabira from Yeh Jawani hai deewani movie and so on. Following this, Astitva Band rocked the audience by singing some Sanskrit songs including Vande Mataram, and other hit tracks of Rockstar movie. Children, youth and even senior citizens danced to their tune. Astitva Band will be celebrating their seventh anniversary on 5th September, 2014.


The popular and much awaited ‘Raag Rang Festival’ started on 28th August and continued till 31st August, 2014, in the evening.


Delhites enthusiastically participated in the festival which featured an electric mix of various genres of music.
