The new move to promote Sanskrit will help the BJP in by-polls
After changing names of Prayagraj from Allahabad, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction from Mughal Sarai Junction and Ayodhya from Faizabad, the UP government has decided to resume issuing significant press releases in the Sanskrit language. The press releases of CM Yogi Adityanath’s speeches were recently issued in Sanskrit apart from Hindi, English and Urdu. The Yogi government had tried to do the same in 2019, but the attempt did not last long. The state government has decided to hire Sanskrit translators on a contract basis in order to sustain the move this time.
The translated speeches and notifications are also being uploaded on the various social media handles. The official Twitter handle of CMO (Chief Minister’s Office) Uttar Pradesh had announced on September 26 that the press releases of the Uttar Pradesh government will be released in Sanskrit too. The CMO also shared the details of a COVID-19 review meeting of the state government in Sanskrit. The idea of Yogi government of releasing press notes in Sanskrit is not limited to just the CMO but also all government departments and offices of deputy chief minister and other state ministers as well.

How Sanskrit promotion will help students of Sanskrit graduates?
With drowning enthusiasm for the Sanskrit language, the move seems an attempt to revive the ancient language of Hinduism. It is also good news for Sanskrit scholars who would be hired by the government for the role of Sanskrit translators. Urdu translators were hired in the previous governments for the same job.
About 50,000 students with degrees of Shastri and Acharya (post-graduation and graduation) pass from the university and colleges every year. There is one University dedicated to the Sanskrit language, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi. About 200 private Sanskrit colleges and 69 government-aided Sanskrit colleges in UP are operational. All these students, either become “Purohits” or wait for the vacancies of Sanskrit language teachers in government schools.
Why Yogi Adityanath government is promoting Sanskrit?
The BJP in its manifesto of the 2017 Assembly election in UP, promised to promote Sanskrit if they are voted to power in the election. Also, the UP government has a CM, whose love for the Sanskrit language is well known. The Chief Minister himself is well-versed in the language and takes a personal interest in the language. Yogi Adityanath is also the chief priest of Gorakhnath temple, whose premises the Sanskrit schools follow.
With the crucial by-polls on 8 assembly seats approaching, the move to promote Sanskrit can help the BJP strengthen its power in the state.
The Yogi government is known for promoting Hindi values, culture and transition as we saw during the founding stone of Ayodhya Mandir. It was converted into a big event even at the time of coronavirus.
