As India bemoans the loss of CDS Bipin Rawat, many videos claiming to be shot during the tragic helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. We are here once again with the fake check of such news with other fake news that came from all across the globe.

1. What! Turkish forces shot down CDS Rawat’s chopper.

Fake news: On 8 December, an IAF (Indian Air Force) helicopter Mi-17V5 crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. In this mishap, Chief of Defense Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 others died. After the news of the crash broke, a video of a MI chopper crashing mid-air went viral on social media. It claims that it was the same Mi-17V5 chopper in which CDS Rawat was flying.

Fake check: The video is being shared on social media with a false claim. The chopper shown in the video clip is not the Mi-17V5 that crashed in Tamil Nadu. The fake post claimed that the Turkish forces shot down the helicopter. The video is from the year 2020 where The Syrian Mi17 helicopter was shot down over Al-Nayrab, Idlib. The original post hails from a Twitter user Babak Taghvaee-“the crisis watch,” where a Syrian Helicopter was crashed.

2. Is this the original clip of 8 December IAF helicopter Mi-17V5 crashed?

Fake news: In the series of such claims, another video also broke the internet where a chopper was landing in the middle of the jungle in an area. Some of the people who can be seen in the video were filming the incident and were running to safety.

Fake check: For your information, this video is also false and misleading. The video is originally from Arunachal Pradesh. Multiple news outlets published the same video last month. As per these reports, an MI-17 helicopter of the IAF crashed during landing at the Rochham helipad in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. The report was dated November 18, 2021.

Fake news: More such images of the IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter circulated on the internet that says that General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 12 other personnel were traveling in it.

Fake check: One of the two images was dated back to 2019 when a helicopter made an emergency landing in Jammu’s Poonch district. Many reports suggest the Dhruv Advanced lightweight helicopter crashed due to technical failure. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The second image in circulation since July 2020 actually is from Colombia. According to reportsat least nine people were killed in the helicopter crash. This was a military chopper crash in South Colombia carrying 17 people.

3. A brutal attack by spurned lover in West Bengal given a Communal Spin

Fake news: A video of an injured young girl talking on the phone in Bengali shows a Hindu girl who was attacked by Muslim youth.

Fake check: Both the boy and girl belong to the same community and reportedly, the girl was attacked because she rejected his advances. The brutal attack was shared with a false communal claim.

4. Germans staged Mass Kissing event to protest against COVID vaxx laws 

Fake news: German lawmakers have imposed strict restrictions for the unvaccinated. As survey suggests, around two-thirds of the population had extended support for the COVID vaccinations. On the other hand, protests broke out against the renewed regulations. Amid all these, a screenshot of German news channel, DW news had gone viral where people can be seen kissing . German Protesters staged a mass kissing event as a way to protest against COVID vaccinations laws.

Fake check: The particular image is morphed. Neither Douche Wyle nor any other media house has published such news. In addition, the image is captured from the anti-vaccination protests in Germany. The image was clicked during the World Kiss Marathon event held in Chile, Santiago in the year 2011. However, it is true that the section of Germans is unhappy with the mandatory COVID vaccination law.
