Who is more likely to win the Emerging Player Award in IPL 2020?

Devdutt Padikkal, Rahul Chahar and Washington Sundar are the top contenders for Emerging Player Award 2020

Every season there are 2 or 3 youngsters who perform so well that they even get a chance to play for their national team. There are a number of them who got noticed in the IPL and later became a force in International Cricket. Be it Shaun Marsh, Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, James Faullkner, Jofra Archer, Jasprit Bumrah or even Manish Pandey. They all became a superstar in IPL first and then went on to rule the International Cricket.

It is really surprising to see so many young players performing every season in front of International stars. In this season, when AB de Villiers  was in full flow, Karthik Tyagi came to ball him in the death over. That over was so good, that even AB de Villers wasn’t able to clear the boundaries. The amount of belief and confidence Karthik would have gained in that RR vs RCB match is massive. These are the match situations which convert an amateur player into a big player.

IPL has kept a special award for youngsters who perform well, known as emerging players. The award is given to that player who best demonstrates the potential to be a future star of international cricket through his performances. There are certain criterias like, the player should be of not more than certain age, should not have played more than 25 IPL matches, should have played 5 or less Test matches, ODIs or T20s in international cricket.

Devdutt Padikkal is clearly winning the race so far with a lead of more than 33 percentage points over Rahul Chahar who is second in the list.

Devdutt has played 10 matches so far in the season and scored 321 runs at an average of 32.1 and strike rate of 124.42. He has scored three 50s so far with 6 sixes and 31 fours and his highest score is 63. The stylish young batsman who reminds us of Yuvraj Singh when he bats, has played a key role for RCB this season at the top of the order along with Aaron Finch, who has struggled throughout this season. Stability in top order has helped the RCB team to find the right balance in the bowling and ultimately help the team to win matches.
