After years of efforts what we couldn’t do coronavirus lockdown has brought Delhi ‘s AQI to very good
The pollution levels in Delhi/ NCR has drastically dipped down after the nationwide lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been only 5 days since the lockdown and the Air Quality in New Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ghaziabad has come down a long way. With fewer cars, bikes and other vehicles on the street, fewer factories running, AQI has become moderate to good from hazardous and poor.
Delhi, which is infamous for its terrible air quality has seen the AQI level coming below 50 in many parts of the city. The AQI level which is monitored by CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board), recorded just 31 at the monitoring station at the Indira Gandhi Airport, one of the lowest in recent years.

AQI levels across the Delhi NCR
At the Bawana station, the AQI was recorded 46 on Saturday, 10 AM. AQI was 59 at Lodhi Road, 29 at JLN stadium, 56 at Okhla phase II, 61 at North Campus, DU, 32 at Sirifort and 34 at Dwarka- sector 8. At sector 51, Gurgaon AQI level was found 48, 95 at Sector-11, Faridabad, 118 at Knowledge Park III, Greater Noida, 32 at Noida Sector-116 and 31 at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
As per the recent data, India is only next to Bangladesh and Pakistan in the list of most polluted countries across the globe.
The vehicular traffic on the streets and roads in the National Capital is virtually nil. Only people who are in charge of providing food, medical and civil supplies are allowed to be on the street. There has been 902 positive cases and 20 deaths due to COVID-19 in India so far.
We don’t know how effective is nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, but one thing is very sure, people across the country will get to witness a toxic-free air for a few days.
