Reports say there could be a big conspiracy behind this blast
A minor IED bomb went off on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road near the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi on Friday evening. The explosion shattered the windscreens of three cars on the road but no one was injured in the explosion. The blast took place on the 29th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations of India with Israel.
The bomb went off at the VIP location of New Delhi only a few kilometres away from the Beating Retreat ceremony, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and other prominent leaders of the country were present. Many are surprised to see a blast at such posh and VIP area. Reports say that the IED was kept at between the pavement and bushes when it went off.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to Israel’s Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and assured him of “fullest protection” to diplomats and the Embassy. He wrote on Twitter “Matter is under investigation and no effort will be spared to find the culprits.”
Various reports have claimed that a letter addressed to Israeli diplomat has been recovered from the site of the blast which mentioned blast as the “trailer.” The fact the letter mentioned Iran’s General Qasem Soleimani and Iran’s scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh as martyrs, who were assassinated last year, indicates that there could be Iran connection to the blast.
Several media reports have suggested that ammonium nitrate was used for the explosion and the blast could be a trial of some “bigger conspiracy.”
Soleimani, one of the most powerful military commanders of Iran, was killed in a drone attack by the USA near Baghdad International Airport. Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated in November last year in Tehran by a satellite-controlled machine gun. Iran had blamed Israel for the attack.

An earlier incident of attack on Israel’s diplomat
This is not the first attack designated to harm Israel’s embassy in India. Earlier in February 2012, then Israeli diplomat Tal Yehoshua and an Indian driver of an Embassy vehicle were among 4 people who were injured after a magnetic bomb stuck to the vehicle that went off in the capital. Investigation revealed that a motorcycle rider came from behind and attached a magnetic explosive device to the rear of the vehicle. But when Israel’s investigation agency Mossad joined the investigation, a bigger conspiracy was found pointing the role of Iranian Quds Force and its and Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, Iran had denied the accusation.
Delhi police on high alert
Delhi police are on high alert after a minor blast near Embassy. They have recovered CCTV footage, which has revealed that a cab had dropped two people near the embassy but it is yet to ascertained if they had any role in the blast.
An alert has also been issued at all airports, government buildings, and important installations because of the blast. CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) said that enhanced security measures have been put in place. Mumbai Police is also on high alert and the security has been beefed up across the city after the incident. Uttar Pradesh Police is also on high alert as it shares boundaries with New Delhi.
Last few incidents in New Delhi including Delhi riots, recent violence during Tractor rally and now this small explosion has somewhat discredited the image of New Delhi and the Delhi police. International media has covered these incidents extensively. Chinese and Pakistani media have also used this incident to discredit the image of New Delhi. Delhi police need to bulk up and restore the image of New Delhi.
