In 1994, UNESCO officially declared 5th October as the World Teacher’s Day.
5th October is observed as the World Teachers’ Day by the UNESCO. The day provides an opportunity to venerate the contribution of teachers and teacher’s organizations across the world.
The day highlights the significance of teachers and aims at directing world’s attention for the dire need to provide conducive atmosphere in building an appropriate environment essential for making a more viable and constructive future generation.
In 1994, UNESCO officially declared 5th October as the World Teacher’s Day. Before this official declaration different nations used to celebrate their teachers day on special days related to persons of educational repute in their countries, for example, Argentina celebrated the death anniversary of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento on September 11 as Argentina’s Teachers Day. In India the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day.

In India, 5th September is observed as the Teacher’s Day. The trend has been initiated to mark the birthday of the country’s former President, scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
‘The education International (EI) (the global union federation that represents education professionals worldwide) strongly prescribes that World Teachers’ Day be internationally recognized and celebrated world-wide. Over 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day. The efforts of Education International and its 401 member organizations have contributed to this widely spread dissemination of the event and its recognition. Every year, EI launches a public awareness campaign to highlight the contributions of the teaching profession.’
