World Healing Day: A Global Movement for Wellness and Unity

Honoring Ancient Traditions for a Healthier Future

A Global Day of Mind-Body Wellness and Unity

The last Saturday in April which falls on April 26 this year is designated as World Healing Day. It’s a day to love ourselves and look out for the health of those around us as well as to engage in activities that support our physical and mental well-being. Originally known as Tai Chi Day, World Healing Day eventually expanded to include other holistic healing groups. This is the ideal time to study and comprehend different types of healing methods. At 10 A.M. The day’s activities start. WorldHealingDay.org is in charge of organizing the events.

Background of World Healing Day

To us our consciousness is everything. It may have an impact on our physiology, psychology and biology. It used to be believed that the extent of our consciousness was limited to our physical bodies but can it impact anything outside of them? We had to reconsider though in 1998 when the Global Consciousness Project was launched as a parapsychology experiment to find out if global consciousness had any impact on physical systems. The project focused on mass gatherings where a lot of people react emotionally to a series of global events. The project observed that computer performance was impacted by events such as the 9/11 attacks and the passing of Princess Diana.

The methods of the experiments carried out by the Global Consciousness Project have been questioned by detractors worldwide. Many scientists disagree with the findings and don’t think the project represents a significant advance in our knowledge of consciousness. However the project raised the question of how concentrated mass events affect positivity. The larger goal of World Healing Day is to ask what might happen if everyone on the planet concentrated on the one goal of healing the world.

World Tai Chi and other events inspired the idea of World Healing Day. Deep breathing and a series of deliberate slow movements are key components of tai chi, a traditional Chinese form of exercise. In 1998 the United States Tai Chi Club organized a large-scale event to honor the therapeutic advantages of tai chi in Kansas City. Due to the event’s widespread media coverage, World Tai Chi Day was established in 1999. Other groups such as those that practice yoga meditation and Qigong joined over the years and World Healing Day gradually evolved into a new worldwide event.
