TV Swayamvars : Singer Mika Singh is making a lot of headlines these days. Currently, he is on a ride to find the perfect match for himself through a swayamvar. The episodes of Mika Da Vohti are streaming on Disney + Hotstar. The show has 12 contestants. They have to compete with each other to steal the heart of Mika to marry him. The show witnessed the appearance of many big wigs including Kapil Sharma, Shaheer Sheikh, Karan Wahi, and many more. The show is hosted by singer Shaan.
Well, Well, Well – he is not the first celebrity to opt for swayamvar to find the right match. Let’s take a look at the list of celebs who opted for swayamvar to find the one.
What is a Swayamvar?
In ancient India, it was a method of marriage in which a woman had the liberty to choose the man she wanted to marry. To cite an example – Have you read the swayamvar of goddess Sita? King Janaka proclaimed that Sita would be wed to the man who would lift and string Shiva’s Dhanush. There were many suitors but only Lord Rama was able to lift and string the dhanush. Hence, goddess Sita married Lord Rama.
The same concept was brought on TV to help a celeb find the right match to keep the audience entertained. The first season of Swayamvar aired in 2009. So, who was the first one to start this trend?
1. Rakhi Sawant : The first season of the show was hosted by Ram Kapoor and the bride was Rakhi Sawant. The show had full lovey –dovey moments and a lot of entertainment. The show garnered a lot of TRP. In June 2009, Rakhi decided to meet 16 eligible bachelors who were ready to settle down with the lady. The contestants had to pass various tasks to woo Rakhi. At the finale, ‘Faisle Ki Raat’, Rakhi announced that she would select a partner but would not marry him. Businessman Elesh Punjwani was announced the winner of the show.
Elesh and Rakhi went on to exchange rings and decided to spend more time before entering into the institution of marriage. The duo later also participated in the show pati, patni aur woh. So, how is their relationship now? Sadly, their relationship didn’t last long. Elesh had bashed Rakhi for making a fake promise.
2. The second season of the show aired in 2010 and this time it was Rahul Mahajan who was looking for his Dulhania. The show was won by Dimpy Ganguly. The duo found love on the show and decided to get married. However, their marriage didn’t last long. Dimpy alleged him of domestic violence. Now, Dimpy is happily married to Rohit Roy and has a daughter and a son.
3. The third season of the show featured Ratan Rajput, one of the most loved faces of television. Ratan worked in many television shows but she rose to fame after she featured in Agle Janam mohe Bitiya hi Kijo. Ratan Ka Rishta aired in the year 2011 and became one of the most popular reality shows on television. 14 eligible bachelors participated on the show but it was Abhinav Sharma who managed to steal her heart.
During the show, she confessed that she is extremely impressed by Abhinav’s simplicity. However, in the finale both exchanged rings. Later, the relationship didn’t work out and they parted their ways.
4. Mujhse shaadi Karoge? Paras Chabbra and Shehnaaz Gill participated on the show to find the suitable match for them. The show aired in the year 2020. The show was hosted by Gautam Gulati. The show began in February 2020 and had to go off air in March 2020 due to the rise in the cases of Covid 19.
