Today must have been one of the dearest days for the Bollywood industry as obviously, it is the Birthday of everyone’s beloved, Shahrukh Khan. Born on 2nd November, Shahrukh has been a man who has earned to be an actor, director, and a renowned film personality and there is no wrong in calling him King Khan because he has earned it all.
Starting his early days in dramatics, the Delhi boy, famously known for leaving Delhi ‘Without a Ticket’ to reach his dream- film city, Mumbai, the actor has gone through all the hardships to earn what he is today. Associated with more than 80 films, Shahrukh has 14 Filmfares, Government of India has also awarded him with a Padma Shri, and also received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour by the Government of France. The next one on the list is one of the big releases of 2007, Chakde India which itself is a non-conventional film. Today, we have a lot of films that outrightly take the plot of sports and women empowerment but back then, it wasn’t so. The genres most liked by people then were romance, drama and comedy and Shahrukh has always been the most loved in romantic roles. But in Chakde, he played the role of a Hockey teacher of the women’s team and nailed it in all senses. Chakde is precisely among the few mainstream films casting mainstream directors whose leading plot is women empowerment.

My Name is Khan
Islamophobia is a term which is very dangerous to use in the present context and was the same back then too. Loosely based on the 9/11 attack, released in 2010, ‘My Name is Khan’ was a film that came with the character of Rizwan Khan who is running to meet the presidents of different countries, just to tell them that his name is Khan and he is not a Terrorist. His performance here is conventionally unconventional as he plays the role of an autistic Muslim and nailed it in every manner.
Fan
Shahrukh’s performance in Fan is precisely an attempt by Shahrukh to show the perspective of a commoner towards a star. The fan is a film on fandom culture where Shahrukh Khan has played dual-role of Aryan Khanna who is a Bollywood star (precisely like the off-screen Shahrukh Khan) and Gautam, who has a face, similar to Aryan. Gautam is an obsessive Aryan Khanna Fan who could do anything to meet Aryan.
The Lion King
Well, you may say that we are cheating here but we are not. Because it’s not just acting where Shahrukh has been unconventional, but in the film, “The Lion King” it is Shahrukh who did the narration, and he is obviously at his best there.
