Salman Khan’s Shocking Health Battle: Living with a Brain Aneurysm and Other Neurological Conditions

Salman Khan recently revealed he is living with a brain aneurysm. Learn about the condition, risks, and symptoms of this serious neurological disorder.

Salman Khan Opens Up About Living with a Brain Aneurysm: What It Means, Who’s at Risk, and Why Early Detection Is Crucial

In an episode aired recently on Kapil Sharma’s show, Salman Khan revealed his health issue that he has been hiding all this while. Known for performing different kinds of high-energy roles super creatively and with perfect action sequences, the 59-year-old superstar let slip that he has been silently battling not just one but serious problems amounting to three — that is, an aneurysm in his brain, trigeminal neuralgia, and arteriovenous malformation fairly simultaneously.
Fans have been moved by both his resilience and constant grit towards working in the face of these challenges. In his words: “I’m out here breaking my bones every day — ribs are fractured, I’m working despite having trigeminal neuralgia, there is an aneurysm in the brain, yet I’m still working. There’s also an AV malformation, and still, I’m carrying on.” It is obvious that Salman has had to carry his burden onward even at such a critical time.
But what indeed is an aneurysm in the brain, and why is it serious?

An Aberration More Like An Aneurysm

A brain aneurysm, or an intracerebral aneurysm as it is scientifically known, results from a weak spot developing in an artery wall in the brain. With the flow of blood striking the wall constantly at that spot, a pouch forms, mimicking the shape of a tiny balloon. Moreover, as many aneurysms exist but go unnoticed in their entire lives, the fear of rupture is anything but a lesser threat. A rupture bleeds into the brain and worsens into a life-threating peril.

Rupture: What Happens?

If an aneurysm causes leakage, a subarachnoid hemorrhage can follow. This is a kind of stroke in which there is bleeding around the brain itself. This may lead to high levels of pressure surrounding the brain. This in turn may lead to unconsciousness or acute damage to the brain or both. Death is not an uncommon consequence.
Symptoms

Symptomatic of an astral aneurysm, when the hemorrhage is felt to occur:
• Thunderclap headache—the most severe headache desperation by any person out of anticipation.
• The second appearance—but also very pronounced vomiting and nausea.
• Unconsciousness is accompanied by possible seizure.
• Both vision and light sensitivity get affected.
• Neck would stiffen.
• Confusion or even strange behavior.
It is important that the individual seek out prompt medical help to reduce the threat of permanent damage or death.

Most Vulnerable?

An aneurysm in the brain can happen in every person: women in the age bracket of 30 to 60 years are more susceptible. Some factors increase its likelihood of development:
• Smoking and heavy drinking
• High blood pressure
• Cocaine and other drugs of the same class
• Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
• A past history of either an aneurysm or brain hemorrhage
• Any severe blow to the headREAD MORE

Could You Identify One Early?

More evident signs for unruptured brain aneurysms may manifest if they grow huger and press against adjacent tissues or nerves. Some signs might include:
• Chronic headaches.
• Vision disturbance (blurred or doubled).
• Eyelid problems/drooping or pain in the eye.
• Facial numbness.
• The ability to concentrate or keep balance in check.
Nevertheless, a fair number of aneurysm cases remain asymptomatic until rupture, thereby justifying repeated health check-ups – particularly for those with risk factors.

When Should One Seek Help?

Seeking emergency help is urgent if you or someone around you, for instance, should experience an utterly severe headache, quite different from any-ever felt before, inclusive of vomiting, fainting, or confusion. The radiologist will confirm the diagnosis with a CT or MR scan or similar imaging technique. Salman Khan talked about his illness which opened discussions on brain health and early detection. He is further seen toiling for the good of the same causes-he is a constant reminder that invisible disorders might affect any entity, be it the strongest in existence.
