In the new episode of Telangana election Telangana’s well-known actor-turned-politician, Vijayashanti, made headlines by returning to the Congress party. She officially left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Congress in a ceremony held in Hyderabad. Congress leader Mallaikarjun Kharge welcomed her back into the party during this event.

With the Telangana Assembly elections set for November 30, Vijayashanti’s comeback holds significance. She was promptly appointed as the Chief Coordinator of the Campaign and Planning Committee by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, effective immediately upon her joining.

Vijayashanti’s political journey has been quite eventful. She began with the BJP in 1997, moving on to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during the movement for a separate Telangana. In 2009, she became a Member of Parliament representing the BJP.

Transitioning to the Congress in 2014, just before the division of Andhra Pradesh and the birth of Telangana, she continued her political career.

Her return to the Congress aligns with the party’s vigorous campaign for the 2023 Telangana elections.

Beyond her political endeavours, Vijayashanti has had a stellar career in South Indian cinema, starring in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam films. Notably, she received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a female cop in the movie ‘Kartavyam’. Her work spans across popular films like ‘Eeshwar’, ‘Apradhi’ alongside Anil Kapoor, and ‘Gundagardi’ alongside Dharmendra.

Telangana braces for the upcoming Assembly elections on November 30, with vote counting scheduled for December 3. In the previous 2018 Assembly elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (formerly TRS) secured a dominant victory, winning 88 out of 119 seats, capturing 47.4% of the total vote share. Meanwhile, the Congress managed only 19 seats, trailing significantly.

The political landscape in Telangana appears charged as parties gear up for the forthcoming elections, with Vijayashanti’s return to Congress adding an intriguing dimension to the electoral dynamics.
