Rajasthan’s Potential Chief Ministers: A Look at the Contenders

Catch the latest on Rajasthan's BJP leadership contest as prominent figures vie for the coveted Chief Minister's role in the state elections.

Leadership Tussle Unfolds in BJP for Rajasthan’s Chief Ministerial Position among Key Figures, Know Names here!

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) didn’t name a leader for the chief minister’s role during the recent elections in Rajasthan. Instead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led their campaign. Now, as the BJP is on track to regain power in Rajasthan (which tends to change leaders every five years), several strong contenders are emerging for the state’s top job.

Vasundhara Raje:

Vasundhara Raje, a two-time chief minister and a prominent face of the BJP in Rajasthan for over 20 years, is likely among the leading contenders. She’s not just the first woman to hold Rajasthan’s top position but has also served as a five-time Parliament member. Known for her administrative skills, she has had clashes with the top leadership but remains a significant figure.

Background:

Educated in Kodaikanal and Mumbai, Raje entered politics in 1984. Her mother, Vijaya Raje Scindia, was one of the BJP’s founders. Raje became a member of the Lok Sabha in 1989 and served as a minister in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.

Other Contenders:

– Gajendra Singh Shekhawat:

Known for defeating the son of Rajasthan’s previous chief minister in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shekhawat is considered a strong candidate. However, he’s been accused of involvement in a cooperative scam and allegedly trying to topple the Congress government.

– Arjun Ram Meghwal:

A former bureaucrat and three-time parliamentarian, Meghwal, backed by Modi, stands as a potential Dalit face for the chief minister’s role.

– Satish Poonia:

– CP Joshi:

A two-time parliamentarian from Chittorgarh, Joshi, formerly associated with Congress, is also among the contenders.

– Baba Balaknath:

A surprise contender, Balaknath, with strong ties to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, could emerge as a significant player, given his influence in eastern Rajasthan.

As the BJP navigates through this array of potential leaders, the choice for Rajasthan’s next chief minister remains uncertain but eagerly anticipated.
