Yes, the cancellation charges differ by class of travel. The cancellation fees are higher for 1st AC and AC-2tier tickets due to their high fares. On the other hand, lesser charges apply to cancellations for Sleeper Class and General Coach passengers. However, if waitlisted tickets are cancelled, a minimal deduction is typically charged, and almost the full ticket amount gets refunded.

For tickets booked via the IRCTC website or mobile app, refund status can be checked online with relative ease.
