BJP’s Basavaraj Bommai urges Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to rethink scrapping National Education Policy, citing its importance and past approval

Senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has made a fervent appeal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to reconsider the decision to scrap the National Education Policy (NEP) starting from the upcoming academic year. Bommai expressed deep concern that the elimination of NEP would significantly compromise the educational opportunities for the children of Karnataka. He underlined the paradox that the NEP draft, which was initially approved by Siddaramaiah during his previous tenure, is now being targeted for abolition.

K Kasturirangan, the former chief of ISRO and ex-chairman of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission, was entrusted by the Central government to lead the task force responsible for crafting the new education policy. The NEP, a product of Kasturirangan’s guidance, is a landmark educational framework that aims to reshape and advance the education system.

The BJP leader lamented the potential rollback of NEP, labeling it a disservice to the youth of Karnataka. He cited the widespread discontent among parents who see the policy’s cancellation as detrimental to their children’s education. Bommai reassured the public that the BJP is resolute in its support of Karnataka’s citizens and their desire to safeguard the NEP.

Furthermore, Bommai underscored the fact that the previous BJP-led government in Karnataka had successfully implemented the NEP, suggesting that the policy’s benefits have already been witnessed within the state’s education landscape.

In closing, Bommai appealed to Siddaramaiah to reconsider the decision to scrap the NEP. He stressed that the BJP stands united with the people of Karnataka, emphasizing the need to protect the educational interests of the state’s youth and ensure the continuation of a progressive and effective education system.

Siddaramaiah’s administration had announced the intention to revoke the NEP’s implementation, which had been carried out by the previous BJP government, from the forthcoming academic year.
