South Delhi Police Arrest Three Men Including Shooters and Main Conspirator in Killing Businessman Arun Lohiya over Property Dispute

In a major breakthrough, police from South Delhi apprehended three men involved in the killing of Arun Lohiya, a 24-year-old businessman who was shot dead near the Chhatarpur metro three weeks ago. The arrests followed a dramatic gunfight with the police in Chirag Delhi during the early hours of Thursday. The first arrest included the two alleged shooters, and upon interrogation, the third one was arrested as a key planner of the murder.

On 15 May, Arun was shot dead while going back to save the court hearing of his case at Saket along with his father Rambir Lohiya in the scrap material business. The police stated that Arun was attending hearings related to attempted murder in a property dispute, which is now believed to be the trigger for his killing.

According to police reports, Arun was fatally shot at around 1 pm on a busy Mehrauli road. Two men approached the vehicle Arun was in and opened fire discharging 10 to 12 rounds. Arun succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The shooting had left the family and the community in a state of shock.

After the killing of Arun Lohiya, the police immediately began scanning CCTV footage from the area. Clear photos identifying the purported shooters were drawn from the video footage, which were then shared with police units and informers to locate their whereabouts. The investigation paid off as the police traced the suspects to Chirag Delhi-Khanpur late Wednesday night.

Around 3 am, a police team spotted the suspects riding a bike on that stretch. They attempted to escape but lost balance and fell off. The police asked them to surrender and the accused instead fired at the police, one round hitting the bulletproof jacket of a head constable. The police returned fire, injuring both men in the legs and then successfully arresting them.

The two shooters were identified as Deepak Kumar (31) and Yogesh Kumar (30). From them, police managed to establish the involvement of a third man, who turned out to be 27-year-old Ajay and the actual brain behind the murder, and he was later arrested from Pushp Vihar.

DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan on the operation said, “CCTV footage and intelligence shared within police networks were quite significantly helpful in this investigation. We acted in fast time to avert more violence and bring those accused to justice.”

This shows, where old enmities may be harbored, especially where property disputes are concerned, they may escalate into violent crimes such as the killing of a businessman. The police are investigating further to find out whether anybody might have a larger involvement or whether this conflict extends beyond these arrests.

With the killing of Arun Lohiya, a lot of concern on safety has engulfed businessmen and citizens involved in property conflicts in the city of Delhi. The authorities are now emphasizing the need to seek avenues of redress on time and to dissuade vigilantism.

It has also assured the public of the vigilance of the police in the area of concern with all preventive measures to thwart possible retaliation or any crime linked with the issues. The accused are in police custody now, charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses.

The community awaits justice as the story proceeds, hoping that things like this killing of the young businessman will not happen again.
