The practice of incorporating a skincare routine into daily life has gained popularity and children today actively seek out high-end skincare products. A phenomenon known as Sephora Kids has emerged as a result of children as young as 7-8 years old experimenting with adult skincare regimens. The phrase is used to describe children who are strongly influenced by TikTok and Instagram videos and who feel compelled to try adult skincare products and brands. 

Structural Differences in Children’s Skin

As children’s interest in skincare products grows parents must recognize that while these products may be beneficial for adults they may have negative effects on children’s skin. Because their skin is thinner and their protective barriers have not fully developed childrens skin differs structurally from adults. Active anti-aging components like retinoids AHAs BHAs peptides etc. are found in adult skincare products. Among other chemicals they can cause children to develop eczema allergies and dehydration. The chemicals have a wide-ranging effect removing the skin’s natural oil and potentially harming children’s skin’s protective layer.

The potent chemicals that cause skin irritation can lead to breakouts and rashes in children. Parents should therefore help their children understand that their skin is functioning flawlessly before addressing their skincare needs. No expensive skincare products are required because all the mechanisms for exfoliating the skin are already in place.

Children who are interested in skin care can use a simple hygienic skincare regimen that includes a cleanser moisturizer sunscreen and lip balm.
