Clear Skin in Your Kitchen: How Rice Water Helps Banish Blackheads Naturally
After numerous unsuccessful attempts with scrubs strips and steamers many people with blackheads can’t help but squeeze them whenever they look in the mirror and who can really blame them? However the answer may already be in your kitchen: rice water which is the murky liquid that remains after washing rice. Because of its skin-clearing properties this traditional do-it-yourself remedy which has been passed down through the generations is currently experiencing a significant resurgence.
Rice Water: What is it and What is in it?
After boiling or rinsing rice the starchy liquid that remains is called rice water and it has powerful skincare properties. It is well known to nourish the skin, reduce inflammation and gently tone pores because it is high in vitamins B1, C and E as well as minerals and antioxidants.
This is nothing new to those who use Korean skincare products. For that luminous glass-like glow rice water is a cult favorite. In many Asian cultures such as Japan where it has been valued for centuries it is also a tried-and-true beauty essential.
How Is Rice Water Prepared for the Skin?
Although there are a number of ways to make rice water, these three are the simplest and most efficient.
- Rice Water Boiling- Drain and rinse the rice. Use four times as much water to bring it to a boil. After finishing, strain the water, press the rice and put it in the refrigerator. Prior to application dilution.
- Rice Water Soaked- For half an hour soak the rinsed rice in water. After pressing the rice to release its nutrients, strain the liquid and store it in the refrigerator. Mix with water to dilute before applying to the skin.
- Water Made from Fermented Rice- Leave the strained water at room temperature for one to two days until it smells sour but soak the rice as before. After that, dilute it in the refrigerator before applying it to your skin.
