Khalistani Outfit Sikh For Justice Threatens Indian Consulate In Vancouver
Sikhs For Justice, a US-based Khalistani outfit, threatens to lay siege to the Indian Consulate in Vancouver over alleged surveillance and intimidation.
Khalistani Outfit Sikh For Justice Threatens Siege of Indian Consulate in Vancouver Over Alleged Spy Network
Khalistani Outfit Sikh For Justice (SFJ), a US-based separatist group, has issued a dramatic public warning that it intends to “siege” the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on September 18. The threat comes amid heightened tensions and recent diplomatic thawing between India and Canada, following a period of strained relations linked to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
SFJ’s announcement specifically accuses the Indian Consulates in Canada of operating “spy networks” targeting supporters of the Khalistan Referendum campaign. The group claims that these consulates are engaged in surveillance and intimidation of Khalistan advocates living in Canada.
According to the notice released by the outfit, the planned siege is scheduled to last 12 hours, beginning at 8:00 AM local time and ending at 8:00 PM in Vancouver. SFJ has urged Indo-Canadians to avoid visiting the consulate on that date for their safety.
In its mobilisation, SFJ also released a poster depicting India’s new High Commissioner-designate to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, with a target on his face. Under the image, the poster labels him the “new face of India’s Hindutva terror in Canada.”

The group ties its accusations to remarks made by then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in September 2023, in which he alleged Indian agents might have been involved in the killing of Nijjar. SFJ asserts that despite those allegations, Indian consulates continue espionage and surveillance targeting Khalistan supporters.
SFJ is a banned organisation in India (since 2019) and is well known in diaspora pro-Khalistan circles for advocating a referendum for Khalistan. Its latest move is being viewed with concern by both Canadian authorities and the Indian government.
The threat of a siege has raised alarm among diplomatic security experts, local law enforcement, and members of the Indo-Canadian community. Many see this as a provocation that could escalate tensions further between India and Canada. Some are calling for preventive measures to ensure the safety of the consulate and avoid any potential confrontation.

India, for its part, has consistently rejected allegations of espionage or covert operations against the diaspora, calling such claims “absurd.” However, Ottawa has faced international pressure to respond to SFJ’s claims and also ensure protections for its domestic and diplomatic institutions.
This episode underscores the fragile balance between diplomatic ties, freedom of political expression in diaspora communities, and the responsibilities of states to prevent provocative acts. As the date approaches, all eyes are on how Canadian law enforcement and Indian diplomatic staff will respond to the threat posed by the Khalistani outfit Sikh For Justice.
