Trump Slams Putin’s Tactics, Confirms US Sending Patriot Missiles

In another major break in the strategy of his administration related to the current conflict in Ukraine, the US President Donald Trump has said the United States is to send Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv. This ruling coincides with another outrage by Trump that was directed against the Russian President Vladimir Putin who he referred to as a leader that talks good and bombings everyone in the evening.

This news came on Sunday, July 13, 2025, and this is already a significant policy shift because Trump had always doubted the need to increase military assistance to Ukraine. Only a few days ago there were reports of a hiatus in some of the vital arms deliveries to Kyiv, something that alarmed Ukrainian leaders and their partners. Nevertheless, the most recent contrasting statement by Trump clarifies the fact that he has changed his attitude, being the President who focuses on the notion that Ukraine is in an urgent need of protection.

Trump assured reporters that they will send them Patriots, which they so badly need, but he said nothing about how many systems will be provided. He emphasized that the US will only be supplied with the highly advanced military items, although Ukraine will be paying them 100 percent, a case he presented as a business arrangement of the United States. It indicates that a different financial plan is to be developed to provide military aid, which entails the expense rich NATO members or other European countries.
Trump was getting frustrated with Putin, as he said in his statements. He criticised the Russian leader as he said, Putin has surprised many people.

He is sweet-talk and blows up everyone in the evening. Well so there is some problem there. I do not like it.” Such an open evaluation points at a lack of genuineness of Russian diplomatic advances in the context of constant Russian invasion in Ukraine that has now been proceeding over three years.

The decision to send Patriot missiles is particularly important for Ukraine, having withstood on-going aerial bombardment from Russia. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously noted that they were close to achieving a multi-layered deal for the new Patriot systems and missiles claiming his most recent summit meeting with Trump was “our best yet.” The Patriot is a state-of-the-art, long-range, all-weather air defense system capable of intercepting tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and advanced aircraft, making it a key player in defending Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure.

This decision by the Trump administration represents a more militaristic stance towards the conflict, following months of unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. This decision also comes at a time when Russia has ramped up air strikes, most recently with attacks on civilian infrastructure reportedly contributing to increasing irritability of Trump with Putin regarding his refusal to agree to a ceasefire. The world now awaits further details of this latest arms plan and what it will mean for the trajectory of the war in Ukraine.
