The Only Survivor of the Ahmedabad Plane Crash Remembers his Fortunate Escape

I still find it hard to believe that I survived it. I thought for a second that I would also die. However I became aware that I was alive when I opened my eyes and looked around. I’m still in shock that I made it through Vishwash Kumar, recalling the events that transpired following the impact in the vicinity of Meghani Nagar.

33 seconds after takeoff the plane which had 12 crew members and 230 passengers on board crashed into nearby buildings. Seven Portuguese, one Canadian, 53 British and 169 Indian nationals were among the passengers according to Air India officials.

“It felt like it was stuck in the air within 5 to 10 seconds after the flight took off,” he said, clearly shaken but still able to speak. Kumar recalled that the plane crashed into an existing establishment after the lights abruptly began to flicker, first turning green and then white.

In contrast to the rest of the plane Kumar claimed that his portion of the aircraft stayed grounded and did not crash onto the building’s roof. I believed I could leave when I saw the exit. I made an effort and succeeded. Perhaps those on the other side of the aircraft couldn’t.

According to the British national the fire that started shortly after the collision burned his left hand. I’m not sure how I made it through. He went on. I walked out of the rubble after seeing two people close to me and the air hostesses dying in front of my eyes.

PM Narendra Modi met with Kumar on Friday during his visit to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The Prime Minister inquired about my health and the events that transpired. I told him I’m fine, Kumar remarked.
