Condemnation of the Attack and Attribution to Pakistan

The recent terror attack in Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir was sharply denounced by Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday. He also blamed Pakistan for trying to destabilize the area and ascribed it to security and intelligence failures.

Warning of Escalating Tensions and Call for Action

Speaking to the Srinagar media Farooq Abdullah warned of the potential for a wider conflict and voiced concern over the rising tension between India and Pakistan. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring. Two nations are currently preparing for conflict. The goal is to prevent this from happening and find a way to apprehend the terrorists and those responsible.

Criticism of Pakistan and Support for Indian Response

The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir criticized Pakistan for escalating tensions while supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the attack. He specifically attacked Asim Munir the chief general of the Pakistan Army for his recent statements that invoked the two-nation theory.

Reflection on Security Failures and Broader Impacts

Without a doubt security and intelligence failures were the cause of this. Pakistan would not have approved of the fact that we were living excellent lives. Additionally propaganda was disseminated to our people. As a result they (Pakistan) used the Pakistani attack. However they failed to consider the impact it would have on Muslims in India. For the past ten years there has been a narrative advocating for the total eradication of Muslims and the destruction of our mosques. We already had to deal with it. Now by discussing the two-nation theory General Asim Munir the head of Pakistan’s army provoked. If war breaks out it will be discussed at the table but only Allah knows what will be discussed there Abdullah said.

Opposition to Government’s Deportation Orders

But in the wake of the attack the JKNC leader strongly objected to the Indian government’s directive that Pakistani citizens living in India leave the nation. This is not a good action. It is against humanity to do this. This is not right, he said, adding that some residents had been here for 25 years and others for the past 70.
