California Mass Shooting: 11 people dead In Monterey, 7 dead in another shooting

In California Mass Shooting Incident, The sheriff confirmed that there were no other suspects in the mass shooting incident and added, the motive for the attack is not yet known

California Mass Shooting: The “Year of the Rabbit” began in horror on Sunday for the inhabitants of Monterey Park, the largest Asian American suburb of Los Angeles, where a mass shooting left 10 people dead.

Liaw, a retired veterinarian who is 57 years old, has lived in Monterey Park for the past 40 years.

In another attack, an armed man killed seven people before being arrested in California on Monday, just two days after a shooting claimed 11 lives at a popular dance hall.

According to the BBC report, the latest attacks occurred at two separate locations in the coastal city of Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles (50 km) south of San Francisco. The attacker was identified as 67-year-old Zhao Chunli, a local resident.

She still has difficulty believing that a massacre occurred here, hidden from view behind the white and green awning of the store she passes every day on her way to shop.

She told AFP as police helicopters flew overhead, “This is a very safe neighbourhood, where I can go alone at night and where I don’t have to worry about gun violence.”

Authorities reported that a shooter entered the ballroom on Saturday night and killed five men and five women while injuring at least ten people.

The mass shooting, the deadliest in the US since the Uvalde massacre, which left 19 students and two teachers dead in a Texas elementary school, caught Monterey Park off guard.

Monterey Park, a few miles east of downtown Los Angeles, is known as the “new Chinatown” of the city.

Most shop signs are in Chinese, and residents read Mandarin newspapers, and few people, an AFP journalist spoke to, could speak English.

According to local prosecutor John McKinney in the vast Southern California metropolis, “this area is one of the safest in Los Angeles County.”

Shooter Found dead

Huu Can Tran was found dead inside a van, ending the search for the suspect in the Los Angeles mass shooting that left 10 people dead and at least 10 others injured. According to police, he allegedly shot himself after finding himself encircled.

The 72-year-old opened fire yesterday during a Chinese Lunar New Year celebration in Los Angeles, California’s Monterey Park. Police surrounded the van after finding him there. The cops heard a gunshot as they came near the car.

“The suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the location,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said.

The sheriff confirmed that there were no other suspects in the mass shooting incident and added that the motive for the attack was not yet known. “The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

According to officials, detectives are currently watching CCTV footage and are unclear of the suspect’s intentions.

Sheriff Luna had earlier questioned: “Who enters into a dance club and shoots down 20 people? We don’t know if this is specifically a hate crime as defined by law.”

According to a statement from the White House, US President Joe Biden has ordered that all US flags at government facilities fly at half-staff in memory of the victims of the tragic murder.

The shooting, one of the deadliest in the US since a Texas shooter killed 21 people at an elementary school in May, has once again drawn attention to the nation’s escalating gun violence and the ease with which firearms can be obtained.

According to the website Gun Violence Archive, there were up to 647 incidents of mass shootings last year, each of which resulted in at least four victims being shot or murdered by the shooter.

In the US, more than 44,000 people died from gunshot wounds in 2022, with suicides accounting for more than half of these deaths.
