World Malaria Day- Know the disease better

The 25th of April is globally celebrated as World Malaria day. This disease globally has a risk to 3.3 billion lives. Plasmodium Falciparum is amongst the five parasites that cause malaria. This parasite is the most dangerous one and is the reason for deaths due to malaria.

It is the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes that transfers these parasites and causes the disease.


Prevent Malaria

Though there are no proper vaccines available to combat this disease, a lot of progress has been made in the last few years. The various ways through which it can be prevented are-

  • Use mosquito repellent
  • Keep yourself protected by being in areas that are not risky and areas that areclean
  • Use sunscreen
  • Try covering as much skin as possible
  • Keep your surroundings clean. Do not let water accumulate anywhere
  • Keep your room sprayed with insecticide
