World Cup champions England wins the nail-biter in Super over


If there was any script written for the final of World Cup, it could not have been better than what happened yesterday at Lords. England became World Cup champions after winning the finale by 1 run in super over. This is the first time when the inventor of the game, England has won ICC ODI Cricket World cup.

The finale was a cracker of a match which ended in a tie after 100 overs. The match went to super over and it got tied there too but England was crowned champion because they hit more boundaries in their 50 overs. New Zealand was in the fight till the last bowl but Jofra Archer made sure that his team lifts the World Cup for the first time.

Eoin Morgan’s team waited for 46 years to become World Cup champions

England has waited for 46 years to have this moment and there could not have been a better place to win it. They won at the Mecca of Cricket, Lords, London in front of home crowds who supported the team throughout the tournament.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first, they scored a decent score of 241. Tom Latham scored 47, Henry Nicholas made 55 and Captain Kane Williamson scored fighting 30. Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett was the outstanding performer for the English team with the ball. They both took 3 wickets each and spared only 79 runs between them in 19 overs.

Ben Stokes becomes the World Cup hero for England

The hosts had a bad start and lost 4 to order batsman at the score of 86. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes combined to put up a partnership which made history. The nail-biter and thriller match went right down to the wire which Stokes finished with the most memorable innings of his life. Stokes made 84 and Buttler made 59. Neesham took 3 wickets and so did Ferguson but couldn’t stop hosts becoming the World Cup Champions.
