West Indies ended their World Cup 2019 campaign with a win

West Indies ended the World Cup on high and won the last game of their World Cup. Afghanistan ended their World Cup campaign winless. West Indies after winning the toss elected to bat first and put a challenging total of 311/6. Afghanistan started well but kept losing wickets in the last quarter and failed to chase it down by. At a time Afghanistan was 138-1 in 26 overs and looked well set to win their first match in World Cup 2019 but fell short by 23 runs.

The last match of World Cup 2019 between two teams was all about youngsters

Youngsters were the main catch from the dead-rubber match which gave us the glimpses of the future of both the Afghanistan and West Indies team. Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer played some good cricket and showed that they are here to stay for a long time.  The young wicket-keeper batsman Ikram  Ali Khil scored a brilliant 86 from 93 balls and grabbed eyeballs.

Chris Gayle couldn’t end his last match of World Cup on high

This was the last match for legendary Chris Gayle in his 20-year long career but he couldn’t make most of his last World Cup game and got out cheaply on 7. He scored 242 runs at an below the par average of 30.25 in this World Cup. Nicholas Pooran is the highest scorer for the Caribbean team. He scored 367 runs in 8 matches at an average of 52.43 and strike rate of over 100. Sheldon Cottrell was the most successful bowler for them taking 12 wickets in 9 games.

Afghanistan has to rethink on their plans and execution

On the other hand, Afghanistan team has to rethink their approach as they didn’t win a single game. However, they were close to winnings games against Pakistan and India. They will have to think if not Rashid Khan then who? Rashid Khan looked out of form throughout the World Cup which is one of the reasons why Afghanistan didn’t do well.
