Mehbooba Mufti, chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, wassworn in as the first women chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir . It India’s only Muslim majority state.
This was marked as the revival ofPDP-BJP led coalition government, after three months of hectic negotiations between the two parties and apparent intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She became the 13th Chief Minister of the state, with BJP leader Nirmal Singh sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.
The Congress stayed away from today’s swearing in ceremony, calling the coalition ‘unholy alliance’.
The 56 –year –old Chief Minister is the daughter of PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
As a mark of goodwill, there would be two new BJP MLA’s inducted under Mehbooba Mufti’s cabinet, Sham Lal Choudhary and Ajay Nanda.
