The new Facebook logo will cycle between the colours of the other products like Instagram and Whatsapp
Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook announced a new company logo to distinguish the app from the Facebook company. The Facebook app will keep the original logo with it. Earlier this year, Facebook started putting its name to the Whatsapp and Instagram, the services that it owns. The new logo seems a step in the same general direction.
Why Facebook company needs a separate logo?
The new logo of signifies Facebook the company, which now offers way more than just the original social network. The idea behind the new logo is to aware people about which products come from Facebook. The new logo will cycle between the colours of the other products like Instagram and Whatsapp. Both these Whatsapp and Instagram have over a billion users each, and rival of the Facebook app in terms of the number of downloads or popularity.
On Whatsapp, the “From Facebook” logo will have a green colour, similar to the colour scheme of the app. On Instagram the “From Facebook” the logo will have a distinct pink and orange colour, alike to the Instagram logo.
The chief marketing officer of Facebook, Antonio Lucio announced the logo by writing a blog post. He wrote that Facebook is updating the branding to be more clear about the products of Facebook. The new logo is designed for clarity, and uses custom capitalization and typography to create a visual distinction between the app and the company.
Where the new logo will be shown?
Facebook has indicated that it will use the new logo within its marketing and products materials soon. The company is also creating a new website, which will be a separate website from the social network website. The main goal of Facebook is to let people know which companies are owned by it. The different services of Facebook – Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram, Workplace, Oculus, Portal and Calibra, will soon have the “From Facebook” logo.
Why Facebook is so keen to add “From Facebook” logo to Instagram and Whatsapp
The Chief Marketing Officer of Facebook said that all the research which Facebook did from millennials and Generation Z was all very emphatic to know where their brands come from. To be transparent with the users to showcase that everything is coming from the same company, Facebook is doing it.
He also said that research study showcased that only 29% people of America knew that Instagram and Whatsapp are also owned by Facebook. The knowledge that Facebook owns both the company will work to improve the perception of the country, which is facing a serious credibility crisis due to recent privacy scandals.
This is to be noted that the owners of both the Whatsapp and Instagram departed the companies on not-so-good terms with the founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg. The co-founder of Whatsapp, Brian Acton even issued a call to “delete Facebook” when the scandal of Cambridge Analytica came into the limelight. For WhatsApp and Instagram, the proximity to Facebook might not necessarily be the image boost that Facebook is hoping to gain.
