WhatsApp advertising: The most popular messaging platform is now going to launch advertising features as well. What began as a modest social networking application for messaging, then moved to voice calls, video calls and adding stories in form of status. Now, it is going to take another leap.
The Facebook-owned application made will show these advertisements in the ‘status’ section. However, the viewer will not be able to see the profile picture of the advertiser.
It will also allow one to visit the page by just swiping up. It will work on the same principle as that of Instagram ads. This is a feature that the company had been planning to introduce for a long time. It was even discussed last year at the Facebook Marketing Summit (FMC) held in the Netherlands.
Chris Daniels, the vice president had made the announcement in November that this feature will be rolled out soon. The final details and date of release have not been given by the company.
However, this news has not gone well with the netizens who are thoroughly disappointed. Here is why?

WhatsApp had promised in 2012 that will never use the platform for monetary gains.
The ads will be shown on the basis of the interest and behavior of the user, which means monitoring of the activities of the users will take place on a large scale.
Almost all applications and social networking sites have advertisements- YouTube, Snapachat, Instagram, etc. These ads are an irritant and no user is fond of such encroachments.
People have threatened to delete WhatsApp if they start this feature. In a poll conducted on Twitter by WABetaInfo, the users were asked if they “continue to use WhatsApp after the activation of the Status ads feature?”. Maximum people said that they are not happy with such a decision.
