West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has compared his fellow teammate’s Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to ‘Batman’ and ‘Superman,’ after their amazing partnership in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday.
“They are playing in form, specifically Kohli, and should continue performing the same way. They are doing a remarkable job for RCB,” Gayle said in an interview.
Kohli and De Villiers are the two high scorers of the nineth season of IPL. Their startling performance has changed the fortunes of Royal Challengers Bangalore, keeping alive the chances of playing in the playoffs.
Carrying forward their grand show in Bangalore, where they made a record 229-run partnership in their huge144-run win over Gujarat Lions, Kohli (75 not out) and De Villiers (59 not out) made wrap of KKR’s 183/5 to jump home with eight balls to spare.
“It’s extravagant, both Kohli and AB are batting under pressure, success credit must go to both of them. Overall it’s a good teamwork. They may have contributed good runs in all the 12 games so far, and hope they continue doing the same and put us in winning position.”
KKR’s ‘home ground’ had transformed into Kohli’s den as the crowd was seen shouting ‘RCB, RCB.’ Talking about his poor performance in the ongoing IPL season Gayle said that in cricket, even though you are a big player, certain times you need a reminder of how good you are. There are ups and downs in cricket as well as in real life.
You just try to take a rebirth as fast as possible. We are all players and we know what is required. You back a player when he is actually not able to perform well, it is very basic.
