Julian Assange, hitherto unknown, came into the limelight a few years back, with his sensational leaks of secret government documents on a site called ‘Wikileaks.’

In Wikileaks, Assange released secret documents of all governments, including USA, UK, Sweden, Germany, India, etc., making enemies across the board. Charged with rape in Sweden, he has been in hiding in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since 2012.

The United Nation’s Group on Arbitary Detention studied his case, and found that his detention should end, and that he be compensated for the same.

However, since the finding of this panel is not binding, it has been rejected by the British Authorities, and has been called “ridiculuous” by UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond.
