Our skin consists of two layer ‘epidermis’ the outer surface and ‘dermis’ the inner layer. Dermis is made up of proteins and collagen. Collagen makes our skin elastic and smooth. As we grow older due to various activities collagen decreases and skin loosens which causes wrinkles. Lots of factors are responsible for wrinkle formation but it can be slowed down by following few simple methods.

Most contributing factor to increase wrinkles are?

Smoking:

Cigarettes contain nicotine which causes narrowing of the blood vessels in epidermis misbalancing the blood flow to our skin and limiting the oxygen and important nutrients to our skin. Tobacco also damages the elastin (protein that connects tissues), weakening the elasticity of skin resulting into premature wrinkles.

Sun Exposure:

The ultra violet (UV) ray in sunlight causes aging of the skin. Chronic exposure to UV rays leads to wrinkles, loose and rough skin. UV depresses the natural antioxidants leading more damage.

Dehydration

When we have water deficiency in our body the cell becomes dehydrated. As we age it becomes difficult for water to penetrate into our cells. Our body’s cells shrinks and it becomes hard for the cells to expand and contract and it becomes difficult to remove waste products efficiently, resulting into impossible entrance of the nutrients into the cell membrane. Due to lack of water in our body we can get wrinkles.

Facial Expression:

We make lots of facial gestures in a day. As we use our particular part of face regularly thus due to continuous movement create wrinkles. But this is something that can’t be avoided here. However, just because it is also one of the factors so we included it in the list.

Air Pollution:

This factor is less known for causing wrinkles a toxic cocktail of pollutants fill the air with substances such as gas fumes, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide clogging up our towns and cities.

These substances can put a strain on our bodies and for the skin this is even worse. To prevent this we should cover our face and stay away from pollutants as far as possible.

Poor Nutrition:

A high sugar diet can cause premature aging. A diet laced with sugar and refined carbohydrates can be more ageing for the skin than a lifetime of lying in the sun.

The molecules in our face that are meant to keep us looking young are very vulnerable to sugar. Collagen and elastic are turned into AGEs which leaves your face skin saggy and wrinkled. Basically, when we eat more sugar and refined carbohydrates, we are causing a great damage to our skin and destroying our pretty young face.

Sleeping on side:

This is very common fact, sleeping on any side instead of back will cause wrinkle while we sleep our face brushes against pillow after a long period it automatically loosen the skin forming wrinkle. Few tricks to avoid sleep lines is to get satin pillowcases as opposed to the usual cotton pillowcases. The face slides against the satin pillowcase so that it doesn’t crunch against it, and no sleep lines are formed. Beauty sleep pillows are also an option; they are made with special foam and have a unique shape which helps alleviate pressure on the face.

Natural aging:

Wrinkles and fine lines are a natural result of the aging process with some people more prone to them because of both genetic and environmental factors. Preventing this is quite tough but can be slowed down using anti-aging products.

Omega 3:

Intake of food materials containing Omega 3 prevents formation of wrinkles at a great extent. Cod liver oil, salmon fish etc. should be included in diet.

Sunscreen

Use of proper sunscreen to your skin can protect you from harmful UV rays which is a major factor for wrinkle formation in our skin.

Proper sleep:

While we are sleeping, our bodies produce HGH (human growth hormone). This hormone is what induces growth and cell reproduction (including skin cells). When we don’t get enough sleep, our bodies produce cortisol, a stress hormone. Cortisol slows growth, tissue maintenance, and results in dry skin. The more sleep you get, the more HGH you produce.
