Rahul Gandhi took over the position from Sonia Gandhi in 2017
Priyanka Gandhi showed her support to Brother Rahul Gandhi on his resignation from the position of Congress President. She wrote on twitter “Few have the courage that you do Rahul Gandhi, Deepest respect for your decision” Thursday morning and retweeted Waynad MP’s tweet of resignation.

Yesterday Rahul Gandhi while talking to the media said that CWC (Congress Working Committee) needs to find the new face for the President position of Congress and it should have been started 1 month before. He asserted that he had resigned from the position of party President way before and he is standing still on his decision. He also said he won’t be the part of the team which will select the new President.
Designation changed on Rahul Gandhi’s official twitter handle
The Waynad MP changed the designation on his twitter handle Wednesday afternoon. He changed it from “Congress President” to “Member of Indian National Congress” and also posted a tweet telling how honourable it was to serve Indian National Congress as the President.

I take full responsibility of defeat in Lok Sabha Election – Rahul Gandhi
In 4 page resignation letter which he attached in the tweet Mr Gandhi wrote that “I take the responsibility of defeat in the recent Lok Sabha election.” He had given his resignation to the CWC on May 25 in the meeting which was supported by his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi.
The veteran Motilal Vora was speculated to the interim Congress President but his as per the recent report Rahul Gandhi will continue as the Congress President till next CWC meeting. There is no clarity on who could be the new Congress President.
