Prashant Kanojia gets bail in “Defaming” Yogi Aditynath matter


The Supreme Court said defaming UP CM is not  a murder

The Supreme Court granted Prashant Kanojia’s bail in “defaming matter of Yogi Adityanath”. The Supreme Court said defaming UP chief minister is not a murder and ordered his immediate release on bail. “Liberty is guaranteed under fundamental rights and is non-negotiable,” Supreme Court said.

Five people were arrested in the matter

Prashant along with four others was arrested for allegedly posting objectionable content on Social Media. He had shared a video in which a woman was talking to reporters outside Yogi Aditynath’s office. In the video, she was claiming that she had sent him a marriage proposal.

Ishita Singh and Anuj Shukla from National Live television channel were also arrested.

Prashant was picked by Police on Saturday from his home at Delhi. The head of a private news channel ‘National Live’ Ishita Singh and editor Anuj Shukla were also arrested in Noida on the same evening.  The same woman who said that she sent her proposal made some defamatory statements against the UP Chief Minister.

Two more people from Gorakhpur were arrested in the matter which is the stronghold of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi condemned the arrest of three journalists

Rahul Gandhi lashed out at UP CM and posted a tweet that he is behaving foolish and need to release the arrested journalists. He also tweeted,  “If every journalist who files a false report or peddles fake, vicious RSS/BJP sponsored propaganda about me is put in jail, most newspapers/ news channels would face a severe staff shortage”.

The arrest of the journalists sparked controversies all over the country on social media about the freedom of expression.
