These peptides have similar effect of relaxing the blood vessels as the popular ACE inhibitors blood pressure prescriptions drugs, like captopril (Capoten) or benazepril (Lotensin).
The study was done on 30 adults with hypertension, were provided with either an ounce per day of Grana Padano cheese or a placebo imitation cheese for a period of two months.
The results were 7-8mm drop in systolic blood pressure and a 5-7mm diastolic blood pressure drop, depending on automated monitoring systems versus in-office monitoring.
However no changes were seen in body mass index (BMI), blood sugar levels and blood lipids.
The study was presented at the 31st Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Hypertension.
