On Tuesday, the Minister for Ministry Affairs, Najma Heptullah gave her resignation from the Union Cabinet.
Najma Heptullah who was the deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha for many years, was not in India during the Cabinet reshuffle as she went abroad for a week and gave her resignation as soon as she landed back.
There were speculations that Najma Heptullah and Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Kalraj Mishra who had been recently turned 75 could be asked to quit.
Heptullah said that she has resigned because of personal reasons and also thanked PM Narendra Modi for giving her the opportunity to “serve” the people.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been given the independent charge of that ministry. With this G M Siddheswara, Davangere MP and MoS for heavy industries have also given his resignation.
President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted both the resignations. After G M Siddheswara’s resignation, Babul Supriyo, the Minister of state for Urban Development has been assigned the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
